Updates for Family and Friends
Hi everyone,
Because we have a wonderful community of friends and family across the country and world, we decided to create a page for you to visit with updates about recent events involving Kathy.
Thank you for your loving support, and fervent prayers on behalf of Kathy and her family!
Timeline of Events
- 5/28 - Kathy had a routine colonoscopy. Scan was normal.
- 5/30 - Kathy began to experience abdominal pain, fever, chills.
- 6/4 - CAT scan revealed infection in small intestine.
- 6/7 - Kathy started course of antibiotics, which helped her to feel better for three days.
- 6/10-12 - Kathy woke up with very high temperature.
- 6/11 - Kathy went to the ER. Tests revealed infection; given another round of IV antibiotics, and antibiotics to take at home.
- 6/13 - Due to recurring high fever, Kevin brought Kathy back to the hospital. She was admitted to the ICU for very low blood pressure and given numerous rounds of IV antibiotics. Will consult with infectious disease doctor.
- 6/14 - Kathy has been downgraded to a medical surgery floor today because her blood pressure is stable now, but her fever persists.
- 6/15, 6PM - Kathy had an MRI, which was normal overall but revealed an ovarian cyst. A culture revealed she is positive for salmonella with possible strain being "salmonella typhi" also known as Typhoid Fever. More testing to follow to confirm. Good news is that today is her first day being fever-free!
- 6/16 5 PM- Kathy was discharged from the hospital! She will follow-up with another round of antibiotics as well as be in contact with LA County Public Health who will hopefully review her case.
- 6/17-18 Kathy experienced bad reactions to take-home antibiotics. She returned to ER Monday evening but was sent home. She is discontinuing antibiotics. She met with Public Health department who has logged her case.
- 6/19-20 Kathy is feeling much better. She is sleeping well again and fever is gone. She still has symptoms but is feeling stronger each day! Thank you for your continued prayers and well-wishes!
- Week of 6/24- Kathy continues to make good progress with just a few lingering symptoms. She is grateful to be feeling well enough to travel to Michigan 6/28 to drop off Katelyn to her college program. Prayers appreciated for safety and healing.
- Week of 7/1- Kathy was well enough to travel to Michigan and enjoy a brief and much needed vacation this week! Some symptoms are still present. She meets with the gynecological oncologist she first saw in the hospital on 7/11 to review MRI results and to create a plan of care. Prayers continuing!
- Week of 7/8- Kathy saw her primary care doctor who will retest her for salmonella since she still has mild symptoms. Her visit with the gyn oncologist went well and his prognosis is positive. He will take Kathy on as a regular patient and they are discussing treatment options. Sunday marks one month since Kathy's hospital release-she is so grateful for the prayers, support and healing.
- Week of 7/15-Kathy received good results that her biopsy is benign! She is awaiting retest results for salmonella. She is feeling better and making progress each day. Thank you for your faithful calls, texts and prayers!
- August 1 update- Kathy is feeling 90 % better overall. Her results were negative for salmonella. She is taking time this month to heal and enjoy a summer vacation with the family! Updates will be now be posted monthly but feel free to reach out to Kathy in the meanwhile.
- Sept 1 update-Kathy has recovered almost completely with no daily symptoms. She has postponed her optional surgical procedure for the moment. Continued gratitude for your ongoing love and support!
- Oct 1 update- Kathy is feeling much better and has been able to resume regular exercise/sleep. She continues to appreciate all the love, support and prayers on her road of healing!
- Nov 1 update-Kathy received good news from a recent scan that was clear. She is grateful to be celebrating her birthday this month feeling well again!
- Dec 1 update-Kathy is grateful to be feeling healthy and well 6 months from her hospitalization. This will be the last update so feel free to reach out to Kathy for ongoing updates. Thanks for your love, support and ongoing prayers! Merry Christmas!
